Malaysia Funds - RM50,000 and above
By Ahmad Zahirudin Ahmad Fauzi
Do you know that there a lot of funding programmes available in Malaysia, and that they are under utilized because there are so many who have not even applied for it? There's the Cradle Investment Programme - Cradle gives a maximum fund of RM150,000 to produce a "prototype" of your products or services. A prototype means that you need not submit a full product or service at the end of the funding cycle, but a workable product or service concept. If Cradle finds that the prototype is marketable, then they will consider giving you additional funding to build it to completion, and to commercialize it. I myself has gotten Cradle funding for 2 of my projects - Bulletpages (RM113,000) and Lagenda Aurellia (RM150,000). Then, there's the MDEC PreSeed Fund. Similar to Cradle, it offers a maximum RM150,000 for your prototype. And if MDEC feels your prototype is sell-able, then you can be in line for additional funding. The 3D animated tv series "Saladin", which is now in development, started of with 2 episodes for its RM150,000 PreSeed money. When the 2 episodes (the prototype) were submitted to MDEC for evaluation, it got another round of funding totalling more than RM5,000,000 for the team to develop and deliver another 11 episodes of Saladin. So, hey... why not you? You might have an idea worth at least some money in your head. Why not look into the above 2 offerings I mentioned above? Seek out www.cradle.com.my, or www.technopreneursdevelopment.net.my for MDeC Preseed fund. If you have trouble getting started with writing a basic proposal for the funding applications, don't worry.
